Newcastle 0 – 2 Chelsea Recap : Abraham Scores As Chelsea Top PL Table

Newcastle United played host to the Frank Lampard’s Chelsea FC on Saturday afternoon, losing 1nil to their visitors as a result of an own goal by Fernandez in the 10th minute of the Premier League Clash.
Both sides kicked off the game, visibly showing their intent, Joelington starting in the absence of Callum-Wilson was able to cause a few problems but Chelsea grew into the game, found some rythm and started threatening the Newcastle defence.
The first Goal was somewhat unfortunately as a defensive move from Federico Fernandez ended up gifting their visitors an early lead. Mason mount threw in a dangerous cross from the flank intended for Ben Chiwel but Fernandez was there to clear but his first touch betrayed him, sending the ball right into his own goal. Despite the VAR review, the goal was given to the Blues.
The Toons tried to get back to the game immediately with some swift combination between Manquillo and Saint-Maximin but that came to nothing and that was all they could afford as Chelsea took complete control over the game and were able to close the first half with the lead.
The stats were all against the Toons. They had no victory from games they have conceded first for more than a year which ended up closing out hopes of their possible comeback as Chelsea too haven’t lost a game they have been fortunate to take the lead early.
Hayden squandered a chance 13 minutes into the second half and missed bring the game leveled with a thunderous shot from 10 yards away from the goal. Joelington lost another of chance two minutes after with a brilliant effort creating the chance from nothing.
Chelsea took over the game of chances and Abraham’s attempt in the 63rd was blocked by Schar but the second three minutes later was a sealed their win. Timo Werner was able to intercept a Newcastle attack and took the ball on a counter over 75 yards before carefully placing a pass to Abraham, who finished off at the near post.
Newcastle tried to get back in the game and made changes replacing Miguel Almiron with Javier Manquillo and Andy Carroll replaces Allan Saint-Maximin. They came close to getting one in, with a shot from Langstaff, whose blazing shot landed on the woodwork.
Chelsea squandered a few more chances before the final whistle but were able to close out the game with a 2-0 win and with three points, they top the premier league table, temporarily till Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City square off later in the day.

Newcastle have lost five of their last seven home matches in the Premier League (W2), as many as in the previous 25.
