Liverpool 0 – 2 Atalanta UCL Video Highlights, Nov, 25 2020

Liverpool FC couldn’t make it into the UEFA Champions League Round Of 16 on Match Day 4 as Italian side Atalanta were able to carry out their revenge in the Premier League winners Liverpool, defeating them 2 Nil at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Liverpool defensive woes were glaring after Klopp made three changes to the defence, bringing in Neco Williams, Rhys Williams and Kostas Tsimikas.

The visitors started strongly , targeting their attacks down the left and were able to create notable chances with Josip Ilicip playing most part in the attacks. A penalty was almost given in the 35th minute when Ilicip went down in the box after a challenge from Tsimikas. However with the theatrical method with which he fell, the Referee felt uninterested.

With 51 percent possession at Anfield, Atalanta dominated with Liverpool able to get their first shot in the 44th minute, when Salah looked to take advantage of a loose ball but blasted the ball over the bar.

Liverpool had successfully gone through the first three games without conceding a goal, defeating the teams in the group but this time, Atalanta got the better of the Liverpool defense at exactly one hour into the game. Papu Gomez did a good job setting up Ilicip for a close range finish.

Jurgen Klopp brought in four substitutes immediately after the Reds conceded, Robertson, Fabinho, Firmino and Jota replacing Wijnaldum, Salah, Origi and Tsmikas but that was to no avail as the visitors doubled their lead two minutes later.

The loss leaves Liverpool FC with nine points at the top of Group D with two games to go. Ajax were able to defeat Midtjylland in the other fixture, leaving them two points ahead of Atalanta and Ajax with two games left to complete the group stage fixtures.
