Kell Brook, Happy Escaping UK Lockdown For Crawford Fight
November 5, 2020
Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook made his way to the United States two full weeks ahead of his fight with Terence Crawford (36-0, 27 KOs), arriving in Las Vegas on Saturday morning.
Brook is happy he made the move out of England as traveling out of his home country, will be difficult following the announcement of the New One Month lockdown in the UK, which will take effect on Thursday 5th of November.
The information was announced by the British prime minister Boris Johnson after the rise in Corona Virus cases in the UK. The UK recorded 21,915 new coronavirus cases and 326 deaths which prompted the announcement on Saturday and the lockdown will end on the second of December.
For now, UK Citizens are advised to avoid travelling outside the country except for essential work, which at the moment doesn’t include Boxing.
The Crawford fight would have warranted his travelling out side the UK to Las Vegas as the fight was just 14 days away on his day of departure. Brook (39-2, 27 KOs) feels the fight wouldn’t have gone off as planned , if he didn’t leave England at that time.
“I got here just at the right time, before this lockdown came in Sheffield and in England,” Brook said. “You know, because we’re in a full lockdown until December the 2nd. I’m so thankful that we got me visa, we did what we needed to do. We came out here to Las Vegas just in time.”
The Sheffield native had no idea, the new Corona virus cases would cause another lockdown in the UK, expressing surprise as he never saw it coming and could have have gotten himself tied down. Just happy, he moved as he need to settle down in Las Vegas for the fight with Crawford.
“We thought we were over it,” Brook said. “But it’s like anything – you know, what’s today is not always what’s tomorrow. And basically, it’s started to get worse and they announced there was gonna be a full lockdown. So, if you’re not on the ball, if you’re not on it, I could’ve got tied in with all that and not been able to fly. So, I’m just happy that we did what we did, and we got here when we did. We needed to climatize anyway in Las Vegas.”
The Terence Crawford Vs Kell Brook fight will be the Headlining bout of a ESPN broadcast on Saturday 14th of November and Crawford goes into the fight as a 14-1 favorite over the Sheffield native, who has only lost to IBF/WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. (26-0, 21 KOs) and IBF middleweight champion Gennadi y Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs).
