November 8, 2020
Filip Hrgovic was to deliver his promise, stopping Rydell Booker within five rounds of their heavyweight battle on Saturday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Hrgovic used a fast pace technique against a tough chin Booker and was able to score a knockdown in the second round and also able to give Booker constant pressure till the referee had no choice but to wave an end to the fight at exactly 43 seconds into the fifth round.
Hrgovic constantly pumped out his Jab and forced Booker to fight in the back-foot, though not really out of punching range. Booker, who hails from Detroit was able to connect his right hand but there was nothing to really trouble the 2016 Olympic medalist from Croatia.
Hrgovic had sent Booker into a corner before connecting a combination that sent Booker spiraling to the canvas. Booker beat the count but Hrgovic was in no hurry to end the fight settling down with the aim of gradually breaking him down.
By round four, Booker looked worn out and the beating by Hrgovic had completely broken him down. The referee had to give him a warning as the Croatian’s dominance led out a one sided beating, while Booker kept playing brave heart.
Hrgovic finished Booker off in the fifth round with a steady connection of power punches. The referee Samuel Burgos ended the fight immediately.
Booker, who spent 10 rounds against Current Heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev about 10 months ago, drops to a 26-4 (13KOs) after the loss. Hrgovic on the order hand, moves up 12-0 (10KOs), scoring the second stoppage victory in six weeks.
The fight between Hrgovic and Booker served as chief support for the fight between lightweight chanp Devin Haney (24-0, 15KOs) and former Olympic medalist and featherweight titlist Yuriokis Gamboa (30-3, 18KOs).
