Arsenal FC were subjected to a 2 – 1 loss by visitors Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) in the Premier League encounter on Sunday evening at the Emirates Stadium.
After a cagey 27 minutes, which had no chances in the final third and a substitution, which was a result of a bizarre clash between David Luiz and Wolves’s Jimenez, Wolves were able to take the lead with a finish by Neto from close range. . Jiminez came out worst from the clash and had to be substituted.
The goal came after substitute Silver, who kickstarted a series of passes by giving Traore the ball, the Frenchman found Dendoncker with a searching cross but the resulting headed landed on the woodwork then spilled over to Neto, who finished from close range.
Arsenal replied with a chance of their own a minute later but Aubameyang wasn’t allowed to reach the ball for a close tap in. However, the game got leveled in the 30th minute by Gabriel, who was there to finish off Willian’s cross with a wonderful header.
The visitors were able to get back the lead, three minutes before half time with Neto again in the build up. Neto picked up the ball and bullishly ran towards the Gunners defence and with no defender putting up a challenge, Neto tested Leno but the keeper clumsily spilled the ball off to Podence, who after a challenge buried the ball in the net.
The second half were mostly made up of chances and no goals. The Gunners had to settle for another loss which leaves Arsenal on the 14th spot on the Premier League table with 13 points while Wolves climbed to sixth with 17 points.
