UFC On ESPN 11 – Curtis Blaydes Feels Happy With Criticism After Volkov Win
UFC Heavyweight Contender Curtis Blades defeated former Bellator champion Alexander Volkov on Saturday night in the main event of UFC On ESPN 11 but his victory ended up attracting criticism from the MMA community including President Dana White.
Blaydes (14-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC), who went the distance for the first time, utilised a non stop take down technique against Volkov (31-8 MMA, 5-2 UFC), dropping him a record 14 times over the 25 minutes to win a unanimous decision at the Apex Center. However, criticism started pouring in before the final horn and got worst after as White called him “Stupid” for choosing to fight that way.
Blaydes, who is presently enjoying his victory appears less bothered about the criticisms and enjoys the fact that they don’t like the way he fights.
“I know who I am now,” Blaydes told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at the UFC on ESPN 11 post-fight news conference. “I’m the heel. You don’t like what I do? I like to make you mad. I like to win. That’s probably the best part about this win, is I predicted this, and I did it. Twenty-five minutes. Didn’t look the best, but I’m OK with having a gritty win like that, and I know a lot of fans didn’t like it, and I’m OK with that. It makes me happy.”

After the criticism from White, he advised Blades to stay busy in the division while the current UFC Heavyweight title picture is concluded. Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic
are set to have their trilogy fight in August 15th at UFC 252 while Francis Ngannou will is the next in line. Apparently, this didn’t sit well with Blaydes, who feels he should also be in the title mix.
“Stay busy against who?” Blaydes said. “I fought Justin Willis, ranked below me. I fought (Shamil) Abdurakhimov, ranked below me. I fought Junior (Dos Santos), ranked below me. I fought Volkov, ranked below me. Like what? No. I don’t know, man. This is probably not the best time to answer that questions so I’m going to leave that alone.”
Blaydes is presently on a four fight winning streak and is presently expected to get his title shot soon. However, he will have to wait for Stipe Miocic Vs Daniel Cormier Trilogy fight and Ngannou to follow before getting his own shot.
