Lomachenko Laughs At Haney, Makes Little Of Knockout Threats

Vasily Lomachenko Laughs

The WBC Franchise, WBO, WBA Champion Vasily Lomachenko  seems surprised at the threats WBC champion “In recess” Devin Haney is telling the social media.

Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs), couldn’t hold back his response after noticing Devin Haney has promised to knocked out the three division champion, if they ever met in the Boxing Ring. Lomachenko dismissed the threats Haney had made and promised to face the 21 year old since, he seems ready to take up the challenge.

“DAZN posted something about Haney, and he said he would knock me out,” Lomachenko explained in a video posted to Top Rank’s YouTube channel. “So that is why I answered him, ‘Hey, listen, are you serious?’ He has not fought anybody and now he is saying he is going to knock me out? I said, ‘No problem. Let’s do it.’
“Then he answered me right away, saying, ‘Yes, we can do it.’ I said, ‘OK, I am ready.’ He knows I am ready. I think he is ready, and we can give the fight for the fans that everybody wants. That is why I mentioned before that this is a very interesting weight class, with big names and good names coming to the weight class.”

The Ukranian has challenged Haney in the exchange on social media but will be heading towards an anticipated showdown with IBF champion Teofimo Lopez (15-0, 12 KOs), whom he intends to defend his WBA and WBO titles with hopes of winning the IBF belt on May 30 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The fight with Lopez has actually been finalised but got shifted due to the ongoing Corona virus pandemic.

The 21 year old Haney (24-0, 15 KOs) was made the WBC champion in recess because a shoulder injury made him unable to defend the belt against Mandatory challenger Javier Fortuna (35-2-1, 24 KOs, 1 NC) in December.

After being made a champion in Recess, the WBC then order No.1 ranked Javier Fortuna and 2nd ranked Luke Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) to fight for the title. They were both scheduled to meet on the 17th of April at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland but has been postponed due to the Corona Virus pandemic. Haney has however sent a petition to the WBC to make him fight Fortuna for the title.
