UFC Rio Rancho Results – Ray Borg Out-Wrestles Rogerio Bontorin To Win Decision
Former Flyweight title challenger Ray Borg returned to the winning column with a dominant decision win over Brazil’s Rogerio Bontorin (16-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) with points 30-27, 30-27 and 30-25 on the judges’ scorecards on UFC On ESPN+ 25 fight card which took place at the Santa Ana Star Centre on Saturday night.
Borg (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) dominated about 75 percent of the fight with his superior grappling skill despite the physicality his opponent tried using in the early minutes of the opening round.
Bontorin fired out early in the first round, pinning Borg to the cage throughout the first half of the opening round but Borg soon got his rythm and timing in the clinch, then went on to dominate and win the remaining half of the opening round.
From then on Borg controlled the fight with a takedown and ground control coupled with some good shots and a push for a rear naked choke but despite being unsuccessful in stopping his opponent, was a clear winner at the end of the fight.
Borg has now recorded back to back wins after suffering back to back losses against then flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Casey Kenny.
Borg, who has missed weight for the fourth time in six years in the UFC, dropped his apologies after the fight to the Fans, Friends and supporters. He also promised to find a solution to his weight cut issues.
The Catch weight Bout (that’s due to the weight miss) was part of the UFC On ESPN+ Fight Card on Saturday night at Santa Ana Star Centre in Rio Rancho
