Conor McGregor made a spectacular comeback to the win column with a 40 second demolition of veteran contender Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246 on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena.
“The Notorious” wasted no time as he went straight at Cerrone firing from the opening bell and didn’t stop till Cerrone landed on the canvas and was forced off his opponent by the referee who saved Cerrone from further damage.
McGregor was clear on his intent, wasting no time feeling out his opponent. He used speed to his advantage, fired a series of shots but Cerrone was able to making him miss and that was all McGregor missed within those 40 minutes.
McGregor followed up the missed blow with a flurry that ended up busting Cerrone’s Nose with the blood flowing profusely down his chest before they were briefly separated. After the separation, McGregor landed a leg kick that wobbled the Veteran leaving him helplessly open for the finishing flurry.
The referee Dean gave the Cerrone reasonable to recover but that wasn’t happening as McGregor’s relentless attacks were too much for him forcing the referee to forcefully remove McGregor from his defenseless prey.
“I made history here tonight – I set another record,” McGregor shouted following his latest TKO win. “I’m the first fighter in UFC history to secure knockout victories at featherweight, at lightweight and now at welterweight, across three weight divisions. I’m very, very proud of that.”
Conor McGregor was fighting for the first time since losing a fourth round submission loss to UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov back in 2018 and after the win made clear he hopes to fight at both Welterweight and lightweight divisions which includes Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal, who were both present ring side.
“I like this weight division,” McGregor said. “It’s good going up and down. God willing, I came out of here unscathed. I’m in shape. I don’t believe I’m there yet, though. I’ve still got work to do to get back to where I was. Any one of these little mouthy fools can get it!”
