Masayuki Ito (25-1-1, 13 KO) will defend his WBO 130-pound title against Herring (19-2, 10 KO), where the winner will go up against fighting for a shot at unification with WBC titleholder Miguel Berchelt, who will also be ringside to build up the potential unification.
The Ones beaten Ito will be defending the title for the secind time since beating up Christopher Diaz for the vacant WBO super featherweight title. He then stopped unbeaten Russian challenger Evgeny Chuprakov in the seventh round of his first defense on Dec. 30 in Tokyo at Ota-City General Gymnasium.
Jamel Herring will be fighting for the third time at super featherweight and will be having his first crack at a world title and defeated Adeilson Dos Santos via Decision, Daniel dropping him in the first and second round.
Herring will have a two inch advantage over 5’8½” Ito but Ito will own a ½inch reach advantage over Herring. Ito is a slight favorite over Herring and his wins over Christopher Diaz and Evgeny Chuprakov are a good deal better than anything on Herring’s record.
