The last few weeks has been tough for Overeem, who had to travel back and forth between the United States and his home country Netherlands in the build up, even having to deal with the disappointment of a fight postponement before eventually sealing this victory.

Prior to the victory, Overeem had to overcome an onslaught from Harris, who fired out of his corner in the opening round firing for a stoppage. Harris landed a couple of heavy strikes that sent Overeem crashing to the canvas and eventually opened a cut on his right eyelid.

Harris followed Overeem to the canvas with hopes of sealing a stoppage. However, Overeem was able to escape that aggressive start from Harris and was able to put Harris on the canvas with a kick, then peppered him with short damaging punches till the end of the opening round.

Harris was out of breath following his experience after his early charge but was back with much power and enthusiasm for the second round after the one minute break. However that was also the beginning of the end, as that was when Harris was caught with a stunning head-kick from Overeem left him staggering and eventually dropped with the following punch.

Overeem followed up and stayed on top raining punches till the fight got stopped by the referee, leaving him victorious at exactly 3:00 of the second round.
