WBO featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson made a successful 130 pound debut against Felix Caraballo, working him down to a sixth round stoppage victory in a non title fight at the MGM Grand Conference Center on Tuesday night.

Stevenson toyed with his opponent, breaking him down with every shot before, eventually ending the fight with a big body shot in the sixth round. The shot sent Caraballo to his knees and his gloves on the canvas and while stuck there because of the pains, the referee Tony Weeks was forced to end the fight at exactly 1:31 of the sixth.

With the win, the 2016 silver medallist Stevenson retained his unbeaten record and improved to (14-0, 8KOs). Stevenson was placed a 100-1 favourite, heading into the fight and he proved right the bookmarkers by winning all the five rounds (50-44, 50-44, 50-43) before the stoppage, dropping Caraballo (13-2-2, 9 KOs) twice in the first round…

Ryan Spann overcomes a late scare to retained his unbeaten record against Sam Avey with a split decision on Saturday at UFC 249 in VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. 

Spann (17-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC), nicknamed the "Superman" took on an Alvey (33-14 MMA, 10-9 UFC) with more than twice his appearance in the Octagon but was able to pull off a fight winning explosiveness than eventually earned him a split decision with scores 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28.

The Light Heavyweight fight was the first fight on the UFC fight card and streamed live on UFC Fight Pass/ESPN+ ahead of the Prelims on ESPN and Main Card on Pay-per-view.

Spann was quick to turn on his grappling skills after the initial feeling out time but Alvey was able to defend that easily before the "Superman" tried finish off his opponent with a standing triangle chock. From then on, both fighters got involved in back and forth exchanges that saw Alvey score good shots of his own, while Spann replied too and finished the round working down his much more experienced foe on the fence.

The aggression from Spann, doubled in the second round, starting with a very high right kick, followed by strikes on Alvey, who also was calculative enough to slip in some huge strikes of his own on Spann, who took them all well. However, the fight ended we with both getting fatigued after just 10 minutes into the fight.

Spann looked to finish off the fight in the final round, blasting Alvey with a lot of high kicks and jumping into danger to land some huge strikes. His gamble almost got the best of him late in the fight as he got dropped by a massive counter punch, followed by a takedown. Alvey tried to capitalise and pull of a miracle submission but Spann was able to hold on till the final bell to seal the win.

Speaking at the post fight Interview, Spann made clear he wasn't happy with his performance and rate himself a C+ for that.
“I started a little slow, a little lackadaisical, a little slow. I’m not happy. I give it a C+.”
