WBO featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson made a successful 130 pound debut against Felix Caraballo, working him down to a sixth round stoppage victory in a non title fight at the MGM Grand Conference Center on Tuesday night.

Stevenson toyed with his opponent, breaking him down with every shot before, eventually ending the fight with a big body shot in the sixth round. The shot sent Caraballo to his knees and his gloves on the canvas and while stuck there because of the pains, the referee Tony Weeks was forced to end the fight at exactly 1:31 of the sixth.

With the win, the 2016 silver medallist Stevenson retained his unbeaten record and improved to (14-0, 8KOs). Stevenson was placed a 100-1 favourite, heading into the fight and he proved right the bookmarkers by winning all the five rounds (50-44, 50-44, 50-43) before the stoppage, dropping Caraballo (13-2-2, 9 KOs) twice in the first round…

Justin Gaethje Beating Tony Ferguson, A Map To Khabib's Title

Justin Gaethje Beating Tony Ferguson, A Map To Khabib's Title

Justin Gaethje UFC celebrate

Justin Gaethje had made clear in the past that, he won't be taking any fight on short notice but made an exception immediately he was given a title shot against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249.

The former WSOF lightweight champion will be meeting Ferguson, who looks to become a two time UFC interim lightweight champion. A win for Gaethje could earn him an express ticket to a title shot against UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Gaethje believes that after he gets a win over Ferguson at UFC 249 main event, which would definitely earn him the Interim lightweight title. He will be given a shot at Nurmagomedov but before then, won't consider himself a champion till he defeats Khabib Nurmagomedov and become the UFC undisputed Lightweight Champion.
“When they wrap that belt around me, it won’t be a destination. It will be a map – a map to the top,” Gaethje told ESPN. “That’s how I’m looking at it. It will be nice to have a belt wrapped around you, but for me, it won’t mean the same. It won’t mean that I’m a world champion in the UFC.
“When I beat Tony, I’m fighting Khabib next, because that’s what I’m here for. I’m here to try and be the best in the world and when I fight him, I want him to try and kill me, because I won’t respect him if he doesn’t.”

If Justin Gaethje is able to defeat Ferguson at UFC 249, then he will be able to spoil the build up to one of the most anticipated fights of all time. He stands a big chance of delaying the meeting between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The fight between the two highest ranked lightweights has been scheduled five times in the past and in each of those times, didn't materialise due to one reason or the other, most recently failing to materialise due to the Corona Virus pandemic.

“I want to see that fight just as much as anybody, but to put food on my table, I have to go,” Gaethje said. “I really don’t care about that. I will feel a little bit bad because I know how bad people want it, but for me to act like it’ll bother me, that would be a lie. I’ll be very happy to royally screw that up.”
