Russia Defeats Saudi Arabia 5 Nil In 2018 World Cup Opener


The 2018 FIFA World Cup Host Russia sends a message to the world with a scary five Nil win over Saudi Arabia in Group A, kicking off the 2018 World Cup in excellent fashion.

Aleksandr Golovin and Denis Cheryshev inspired the Russian team, contributing from the first goal to almost all the goals in the game. Russia gave Saudi Arabia pressure in the early stages, dominating and forcing them to lose balls and right at the 12 minute mark they took the lead.

Aleksandr Golovin crossed a corner and Saudi Arabia failed to clear their lines  leaving Iury Gazinski guided a header into the far corner.

Nine minutes after the goal, Alan Dzagoev limped off with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Denis Cheryshev, who capitalized in the 43rd minute on a poorly and badly disintegrating Saudi Arabia defense to finished beautifully from a counter attack.

Russia relaxed a bit in the second half but the Arabians failed to capitalize till Artem Dzyuba, 60 seconds after coming on, In it the 71th minute added salt to their wounds, heading home for the third.

In the last minutes of the game, Cheryshev waved the outside of his right boot to conjure a fourth goal while Aleksandr Golovin sent in a glorious free kick to crown the host with a well deserved 5-0 victory in the world Cup opener.
