George Groves Warns Gennady Golovkin To remain Below 168lbs
8/10/2017

George Groves has sent a warning to Gennady Golovkin telling him to ignore the risk of moving up in weight (a higher weight division), especially 168lbs, where he is a world champion.

“I think certainly Alvarez is too small and Golovkin is too small. What he does well, he’s getting on a bit but he’s got so much power. He’ll lose an edge to the power coming up. The big guys that he’s fought lately, he hasn’t quite had the success with, like [Danny] Jacobs. So it’s like anything: the bigger you are, the better you are at absorbing a shot. He’s going to fight big super-middleweights, 13 plus stone, his power isn’t going to be the same. He doesn’t need to. He’s a big name at middleweight, there’s enough fights out there for him at middleweight. If I was him I’d stay there,” George said.

Both fighters have met in the past but doesn't expect to face any of the two (Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin any time soon), both fighters have been ordered by the WBC To have a rematch and the world is waiting to see the outcome.

“When the fight was made I thought Canelo would be a little too slick for Golovkin, I thought Golovkin dipped just because he hadn’t been tested over the years. I saw in the weigh-in that Golovkin looked in real good shape, better shape than I’d seen him recently. Probably up for it much more, knew it was a bigger payday, a bigger challenge, opens up the door for some other bigger fights. That was motivation for it,” Groves added.
