Elise Christie Named Sunday Times 2017 Sportswoman Of The Year

Short-track Speed Skater Elise Christie has been recognized by the for her hard work in the world of Speed Skating by the Sunday Times, naming her their 2017 Sportswoman of the Year at Thursday night's awards ceremony in London.

Christie will no doubt take the trophy as a good crown up for a successful year, winning three world titles in Rotterdam in March, overcoming the trying times she experienced on 2014 Winter Olympics.

Others who were also up for the Award included Taekwondo world champion Bianca Walkden and the Wimbledon semi-finalist and World No 9 Johanna Konta.

In acceptance of the award Christie said: "It was really difficult. I thought about quitting a few times and I wanted to change sports and things like that.

"But I was lucky enough to be backed by the Sky scholarship programme, and UK Sport and everyone on my national team really helped me to get through that, it was really rough.

"I can't believe I turned it all around. Imagine, if I had quit I wouldn't be standing up here."

"Definitely, I hope," she added. "That is the goal and I definitely believe I can. It would mean so much to me, after fighting back from everything. And I would love to do it for everyone who has really supported me and everyone who helped me get here."
