CSAC Recommends Bantam Weight Champion Yana Kunitskaya Move up The Weight

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has made recommendations, that the Invicta FC Bantam Weight Champion Yana Kunitskaya move up in weight after she weighed 15 percent above the weight class on fight day last week via commission medical suspension document obtained Tuesday by MMA Fighting.

The rule which states that Doctors should recommend fighters above 10% of their weight class during fight fight-day check was implemented by the CSAC in June and in this case is rightly applicable.

The New Champion defeated Raquel Pa’aluhi on Thursday night in the Invicta FC 25 main event at Tachi Palace Resort & Casino in Lemoore, Calif to claim the vacant Bantam Weight title which had been vacated by Tonya Evinger  through unanimous decision Win.

CSAC reported that Yana Kunitskaya gained 14.3 after weighing 134.5 a day earlier and Out weighing her opponent which has ignited the CSAC rule which the commission hopes Invicta will uphold.

Invicta president Shannon Knapp said the promotion will be monitoring Kunitskaya’s weight closely in the future, but acknowledges that the CSAC recommendation puts the promotion in a tough spot since Kunitskaya is its new champion in the 135-pound division.

“The big deal for me is, I definitely don’t like to see that, because it doesn’t seem quite healthy,” Knapp said. “So I understand where they’re coming from and I support Andy and CSAC for their efforts. I think what he’s trying to do is for the safety of the athletes.”
