Liverpool will have to start the season without Adam Lallana, who will be ruled out for at least two months due to a thigh injury he suffered Audi Cup final defeat against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Lallana's injury is likely to see him miss key games against Arsenal and Manchester City in the early months of the season, while he could be a doubt when Liverpool face Manchester United on October 14.

This injury will have the England International miss the opening game against Watford, key games against Arsenal and Manchester City in the early months of the season and might also be be in doubt against Manchester United come Oct 14.

"This is certainly not news we would have wanted," manager Jurgen Klopp told the club's official website.

"Unfortunately, the damage is such that it will likely mean Adam is out for a couple of months not weeks, so I think we can pretty much rule him out of August and September.

"Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see. He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see."
