Frank Buglioni Successfully Defends His British Light-Heavyweight Title Against Ricky Summers

Frank Buglioni defends his British light-heavyweight title defeating Ricky Summers with scores of 116-113, 115-114 and 118-111 at The O2.
Buglioni admits that Summers made him work for the win in his first defence of the British title. 

"Very tough, credit to Ricky, he brought his A-game," Buglioni told Sky Sports.

"I've really enjoyed it, but I will definitely excel from this and come on."

Both men touch gloves and there is mutual respect between them after a hard-fought battle. Summers needs a knockout to rip the British belt from Buglioni. Dropping his gloves by his sides, Summers urges Buglioni to stand and trade. He lands a crisp straight right hand and Buglioni pumps out punches in response. Summers is hurt in the closing seconds, but he is spared by the bell and Buglioni smiles. 


After that nervy start, Summers has done himself justice, although Buglioni appears to be a few minutes from a point victory. Summers will have learned a lot, even if he loses his unbeaten record. Jolting uppercuts and a crunching right hand from Buglioni, who has shown his experience 


Sky Sports expert Tony Bellew has given Buglioni a four round lead, with three remaining, but it could be closer at ringside. Summers has seized the centre of the ring and is trying to bully Buglioni. Stabbing jabs from Summers, but Buglioni is answering all of his punches and nods his head at the end of the round. 


Summers uncorks a left hook that seems to have briefly troubled Buglioni. You cannot question the spirit of Summers. His head is rocked back by a right hand from Buglioni, but he fires back in determined fashion. Both men exchange body shots in the closing minute. 


A classy uppercut from Buglioni, who will want to snuff out this fightback from Summers. Decent one-two in reply from 'Digger.' A well placed right hand from Summers rips through Buglioni's guard. 'Wise Guy' answers with one of his own. A big left hand stiffens the legs of Summers and he's breathing heavily at the bell.


Buglioni continues to chip away at the defences of Summers with his heavier punches. But Summers produces a defiant response, forcing Buglioni onto the back foot. The Midlands man is enjoying his best round of the fight and there is a look of frustration on Buglioni's reddened face after he withstands a succession of shots. 


Can Summers continue this promising spell? Both men exchange right hands in the opening minute. Back comes Buglioni, who lands another right as Summers is forced to the ropes. Summers is ticked off by referee Marcus McDonnell for holding. Good uppercut from Summers, but Buglioni shrugs it off and answers with his own power shots before the bell. 


Better start to this round from Summers, who catches Buglioni with an accurate string of punches. Summers is trying to gain a foothold and stabs jabs to Buglioni's body. A determined assault from Summers briefly forces Buglioni to the ropes and they continue to trade punches until the bell. Great fight. 


The riot act was read to Summers in his corner during that break, but can he react? Buglioni is searching for that stoppage win and unloads his hurtful right hand again. Summers is still in there and answers with stiff jabs. But Buglioni packs superior firepower and Summers is rocked by another right before the bell. 


Buglioni is an experienced fighter and senses that Summers is vulnerable. He resumes his body attack by sending a left hook into his challenger's ribs. Big right hand and Summers is staggered! But he waves Buglioni to come on and makes it through the round. 


This fight is warming up nicely as Buglioni marches forward from the start of the second round. Summers is countering well off the back foot and seems to have settled on the big stage. Buglioni rams home a right hand, but Summers responds with a quick cluster of punches. Strong end to the round by Buglioni, who hurts Summers with a crisp body shot. Does he have long enough to recover?


Summers finds the target with the left jab early on, before landing a right hand. Buglioni lands whipping right hooks to the body. Both fighters stand in the centre before Buglioni lands a heavy straight right. Summers replies with his own artillery. Both fighters land well in a fairly even opener.
