(Indy 500) 1962 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Jim McElreath Dies At Age 89

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Famer, who is induces into the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame and the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Jim McElreath has been reported dead on  Thursday in his sleep at his home in Arlington, Texas.

McElreath was one of those eight surviving rookies, who drove front-engine car in the Indy 500, where rear engines are now made standard. McElreath had his best year in 1966 finishing third and was able to finish six and higher six times in his Indy 500 career which summed up 15 races.

He retired in 1984
