FC Rostov 1 - 1 Manchester United (UEFA Europa League Round Of 16 first Leg)



FC Rostov settled for a  1-1 draw with Manchester United, in the first let of UEFA Europa League Round Of 16 knock out stage.

Manchester United before the game had made a few comments about the football pitch calling for a change in match date, expressing fears of the bad pitch but this gave them that initial zeal to make a mark early and it paid off with Henrikh Mkhitaryan 35th minute goal which started out as a lone run by Marouane Fellaini into the Rostov Box, then pokes it to Zlatan Ibrahimovic who after one or two moves in the box, sets up the ball for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, for the first goal.

The Armenian has always shown his importance in the United team and each time he is featured he registers a goal, last time he scored the only goal in the 17th minute of which after he was pulled out because of injury issues in their last fixture.
The Russians recovered early from the United Goal and scored one for themselves in the 58th minute, Bukharov recieved a long ball from Kalachev wasting no time with it, he beat Romero with a wonderful finish.



With the game leveled, the Russian side now looked to have awaken from slumber, owning more possession than United and coming close a number of times but the United defense was most times up to the task while the best Chance for United came in the final minutes, but Martial failed to make it count.

Mkhitaryan, speaking after the game, expressed his happiness after scoring on his return from injury.

“We tried to win and we weren’t very focused at the beginning but in the second half we played as good as we could on this pitch,” he said. “It was not a very interesting game but we tried to do everything we could.

“It’s football and the equaliser will be considered, it’s a mistake but the second game will be more important. The first half was more quiet and there was nothing special, I’m happy to score but we conceded. I’m felling better there is no injury and I’ll be getting ready for the next game”
